Goethals Indian Library & Research Center
The Goethals Indian Library & Research Center is a threefold functional center – a library, a research center and a minor archives division. Its foundation was laid with a unique mission of converting and making proper utilization of the precious collection of books of Paul Goethals, S.J. Archbishop Goethals. It is built adjoining to the to The St.Xaviers’ College, Kolkata. The library with its restorations and contemporary facilities serves as a premier Research and Reference Centre. The centre comprises books of miscellaneous interests from Ancient India, the Dutch, the French, Religions, the Muhamedddan period, the States, the Portuguese in India, the British period, Gazetteers, the Tribes, Archaeology, the Arts, Philosophy, Indology, Natural History to Travels. In addition to these, there are six large volumes of oriental scenery each containing 24 views accompanied by color engravings by Thomas and William Daniell between 1795 and 1803. Goethals Indian Library & Research Center Memberships Fees
Life Membership: Rs. 3,000
Annual Membership: Rs. 500
Monthly Membership: Rs. 100
Weekly fees: Rs. 50
Being a leading Public Library in Kolkata, it can also take credits for housing Bibliographies, Plates and maps and periodicals in the company of a rare collection of books, which dates back to 500 years. Individual and Institutional are the two types of memberships available in the library cum research centre. There are short-term memberships for Rs. 50 a month for individuals and Rs. 25 for Researchers on a short stay. To avail membership one can choose to pay either by cash or check. Goethals Indian Library & Research Center also offers free of cost services to pupils if valid credentials for that matter are produce.
